Dia 23 de outubro, sexta-feira, o Ateliê397 com apoio da Secretaria de Cultura doEstado de São Paulo – via ProAC, inaugura a exposição “Dirty Looks NYC”. Dirty Looks é uma plataforma para filmes queer, vídeo e performance, gerida por um coletivo de curadores. A mostra reúne trabalhos audiovisuais que marcaram a trajetória dos programas do Dirty Looks em Nova Iorque ao longo dos últimos três anos. O curador da exposição Bradford Nordeen, diretor criativo do projeto, estará presente na abertura e fará uma apresentação dos trabalhos para o público interessado.

A exposição encerra o projeto “Redesignações”, que constituiu parte da programação do Ateliê397 no ano de 2015. O projeto apropriou-se do nome dado à cirurgia de mudança de sexo para discutir identidades construídas no campo da arte. Assim, os eventos “Before Pictures: Encontro com Douglas Crimp”, e “O artista gestor e a potência independente”, que fizeram parte do projeto, trouxeram questionamentos do gênero na arte e o debate sobre a categorização de espaços independentes. A mostra “Dirty Looks NYC” se alinha com os objetivos do projeto, trazendo para o Brasil um coletivo que é, atualmente, referência na pesquisa audiovisual de discussão de gênero.

 

Bradford Nordeen é fundador do Dirty Looks, plataforma para videos e filmes experimentais queer sediada em Los Angeles e Nova York. Organiza projeções internacionalmente e já realizou mostras para a Outfest, MIX NYC e Milwaukee Underground Film Festivals. Tem textos publicados na Art in America, The Huffington Post, Afterimage, Lambda Literary, Little Joe e Butt Magazine, dentre outras. Vive entre Los Angeles e Nova York.

Dirty Looks NYC

With support from the São Paulo Department of Culture, through the ProAC (Cultural Action Program), Ateliê397 will open on October 23, Friday, the exhibition Dirty Looks NYC. Dirty Looks is a collective of curators and a platform for queer film, video and performance. The show gathers audiovisual works that are milestones in the growth of Dirty Looks as a New York-based organization over three years of programming. Bradford Nordeen, creative director and curator of the exhibition, will attend the opening and present the works to the audience.

The exhibition closes the Redesignações [Reassignment] project which covered part of Ateliê397’s programming for this year. The project appropriated the name given to the sex reassignment surgery to discuss the identities built in the field of the arts. Thus, the events Before Pictures: Meeting with Douglas Crimp and Managing artists and the independent power, which were also part of the project, addressed gender issues in the arts and promoted the debate on the categorization of independent spaces. The exhibition, Dirty Looks NYC is aligned with the project goals and brings to Brazil a collective that is currently a point of reference in the audiovisual research into gender issues.

 

Bradford Nordeen is the founder of Dirty Looks, a bi-coastal platform for queer experimental film and video. Nordeen has organized screenings internationally and has programmed for Outfest, MIX NYC and the Milwaukee Underground Film festivals. His writing has been published in Art In America, the Huffington Post, Afterimage, Lambda Literary, Little Joe and Butt Magazine, among others. He lives in Los Angeles and Brooklyn, NY.
